Read Ready America?

Covington school teacher and Miss Kentucky 2022 Hannah Edelen wants to expand the program as she represents Kentucky at the Miss America Pageant in 2022.

Hannah Edelen is the latest to be crowned Miss Kentucky 2022. The Covington School Teacher took home the honor last June in Bowling Green. Now she looks to compete on the national stage in the Miss America Pageant later this year.

As part of her platform, Edelen pitched a program called Read Ready Kentucky, a literacy effort encouraging young learners to take up books as an extension of the City of Covington’s Read Ready Covington project we helped name and design. At Miss America, Edelen will expand her pitch as Read Ready America.

She told our friends at Link NKY “I’m hoping for my students that they see this as an example of how to look at their own life,” Edelen said. “A lot of our students have a lot of adversities. All throughout my time at Covington, I always told my kids to never let their environment define who they are or what their future will look like, but to define it themselves.”

Edelen’s excitement for the project brings us tremendous hope that the foundations laid by Read Ready Covington can inspire young readers, learners and parents across the nation in the months and years to come.
