Exploring the Future Possibilities of Electric Helicopters

The RYSE Recon, and the larger electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) future are discussed in The Daily Beast.

We’ve always dreamed of flying cars. All-electric VTOL builder and BLDG client RYSE Aerotech are working to make those dreams realities.

To get there takes countless hours of testing, refinement, and more testing. The story of electric mobility is one of trial and progression, and to see The Daily Beast capture that moment with optimism while still asking important questions is exciting to see.

In the article “This Flying ATV Might Bring Farming Into a Cyberpunk Future,” The Daily Beast writer Tony Ho Tran speaks to RYSE about their Recon eVTOL, and also speaks to their current audience (farmers) about the opportunities and future possibilities that eVTOL aircraft can deliver.

“It’s easier to operate a flying ATV than you think—or, at least it was for me. That’s not a humblebrag either. It was designed so any idiot like me—who backs up into his recycling bin every time he pulls out of the driveway—can jump in and use it.” - Tony Ho Tran

Any innovation is never free from its challenges, as the article carefully points out. But the article largely focuses on the relative “boringness” of the Recon, and why that’s a great thing to have when you’re talking about spinning rotors and civilian flight.

But what separates the RYSE from other eVTOL joyride concepts like Joby or Vertical Aerospace is that the Recon is built with purpose for people with purpose.

“(Farmers are) actually the most innovative users in the world. They’re the first to use fully autonomous equipment in the market like tractors that run on GPS for the last 20 years.” says RYSE CEO Mick to The Daily Beast. “Then there’s tracking fields and soil, doing high-definition imaging and topography analysis—farming’s very sophisticated science,” he added. “These guys are used to using high tech before everyone else.”
