If you’ve seen anything from us lately or haven’t been on this website in awhile, you will notice a tonal shift. Over the last 18 months we've been actively transforming from a studio solely focused on brand identity to a consulting firm that harnesses creativity in all its forms to solve complex business problems.
This shift is about meeting our clients where they are in 2025 and beyond. It’s about broadening the definition of what we do to include all that we do. We’d love to tell you more about it.
More Than Pictures
Let's be clear: We still craft compelling identities, and we do them exceptionally well. However, that laser focus on brand identity projects was no longer representative of the variety and complexity of work coming through our door. Not every business needs a rebrand, but every business faces challenges, has hopes, and seeks answers. We believe starting with creativity as the mindset opens up the possibilities of what those answers can be. It can be a visual identity, it can be a billboard, it can also be a portfolio strategy or brand architecture exercise. We don't approach projects with pre-packaged solutions.
Our core business is about building collaborative relationships. We dive deep to understand the root issues facing your business or organization and then develop a customized roadmap and set of solutions. This, in essence, is the heart of our evolution.
In practice
Here’s an example: We worked with Massachusetts General, Harvard University, Cincinnati Children’s and many others to develop the Bipolar Action Network. The Bipolar Action Network is a learning health network aimed at driving innovation and funding for bipolar disorder treatment and awareness. The creative deliverables on the surface for this project were a new name, identity, and website for the network. However, before we could create the identity, we did an exhaustive amount of immersion and research including qualitative and quantitative data gathering, developed a mission, vision, and values, a comprehensive brand strategy, a personas booklet, and a fundraising video (with help from our friends at Harris Media) so that we had a true understanding of who this network was for, the complex elements that hinder care or funding, and many other elements core to driving adoption and revenue.
From there we went into your classic brand building mode, where we developed the name, the visual identity, and the web experience (with an assist from Auxiliary). What we found through that project, as well as many others we’ve taken on in the last 13 years, is that the visual was the tip of the creative iceberg. The real magic was in the mindset.
The Changing Landscape of Creativity and Design
Technology is advancing at an incredible pace, and the tools of creativity are becoming more democratized. Relying solely on the Adobe Suite as the ultimate outcome of our creativity is incredibly limiting. It confines us to a narrow space where differentiation is increasingly difficult. This is not an abandonment of design; in fact it’s quite the opposite. We aim to amplify what graphic design is capable of. Design is no longer static or purely visual. A brand is no longer a purely visual exercise. A brand is your business is everything.
