Norwood Waterworks Basketball Courts
This basketball court mural project began with the city of Norwood wanting to enhance their public spaces and get basketball courts back in Norwood after 15 years of the courts being absent.
BLDG partnered with a community coalition of ASAP Norwood (a Drug-Free Communities Support Program managed by the HealthPath Foundation of Ohio), the City of Norwood, and Interact For Health. This multiple organizational effort was to refurbish the basketball courts for people of Norwood for all ages to enjoy and be active in a safe and healthy place.
BLDG created a design for the double courts that reflected Norwood’s history and its tight knit community. The design entailed the much loved GM Firebird to represent the famed automobile that was only built in Norwood, the city’s logo, the Norwood zip code, along with wildly beautiful design and vibrant color. The double courts cover a whopping 10,000 square feet with the text, “OUR CITY, OUR COURTS” running through the center along with 8’ letters of NORWOOD and WATERWORKS running the baselines.
The courts have been featured on local television news, international social media platforms, and have become a center of pride for all who play ball in Norwood.
